REUNION DEPARTEMENTAL COUNCIL
For more than twenty years, the Departmental council has been protecting and enhancing biodiversity and vulnerable natural areas.
An important landowner, with 105 000 ha of natural forest, it (along with Europe) also finances and promotes biodiversity initiatives, with an annual budget of more than 10.5 million Euros per year.
With the help of the ONF and other organisations, it focuses its efforts on the conservation, management and restoration of the most vulnerable areas in the island – primary forests, ponds, wet meadows, and coral reefs.
It devotes considerable resources to reducing invasive alien species and initiatives to safeguard our native birds, the Réunion Cuckooshrike, papangues and petrels…
It is particularly committed to involving the public in conservation.
